Simplicity, a form of Joy
Lately, I receive messages from random friends asking how am I staying joyful or carry positivism with me. If you know me, then you will see that I am not just a joyful person. I am a spectrum of emotions from highs to lows. However, I do agree that I am a lot happier these days. There’s no one formula to why I am happy because it’s a combination of various factors. Today, I will share just one idea. ⠀
⠀
It is my idea of simplicity. Taking the stride to live a simpler life has made me a happier and lighter person overall. Simplicity can mean different things to everyone, and for me, simplicity is putting my focus on what truly matters and eliminating the non-essentials. My focus is then realigned to my inner compass and values. I spend a lot of my time with myself to contemplate on what is truly important to me. Once I have identified the crucial areas of my life, I placed them of the highest priority and built from there. I also consciously recognise and eliminate the things I do not feel will bring me joy. Before embarking on a new task, event, activity, I asked myself whether if doing any of these will bring me more pleasure and does it allow me to live according to my values? If yes, I will go for it even if it can be challenging. If no, I would say no even if it means I may sometimes upset the people I say no to. ⠀
⠀
The conscious act of practising simplicity and knowing how to spend my time wisely has indirectly and directly brought me so much more joy than before. ⠀

I hope this sharing helps you in identifying what matters to you.
