True Freedom Is a Gift to Everybody and Everything

According to Adyashanti, if awakening is true and authentic, then the gift of freedom is to the entire world, a given to everybody. It does not simply mean that “I’m free.” True freedom is “Everything is free.” It means that everybody has the freedom to be who they are — whether they are awake or not awake, deluded or not deluded. Freedom is the realization that everything and everybody gets to be exactly as they are.

As I read up on these words, it is a reminder to myself that real freedom means I am no longer under the influence of the actions, words and opinions cast upon me. It also means that I ceased expecting others to think, act or perceived the same as I do. I relinquish control, desire and expectations. Especially when it comes to people who trigger certain negative emotions in me, it comes from the space of “How good I can feel,” the longing to be apart from these negative emotions. However, these negative emotions come about in the first place because I have wishes to control my perceptions of reality. True freedom is a gift to everything and everybody.
